Bookmarked! 2012 overview

The Lucy Daniels Center and Lucy's Book Club are thrilled to present Bookmarked! 2012, a community reading festival that has engaged more than 5,000 kids and parents, raised more than $130,000 to support the Center's child mental health programs, and provided Lucy’s Book Club reading materials to more than 30,000 Triangle-area families annually since its inception in 2010. Bookmarked! celebrates the special joys of reading with children and, as an extension of our Lucy's Book Club community outreach initiative, encourages parents to make reading with their children a daily priority.
Bookmarked! 2012 will run from Friday, April 27, through Sunday, May 6.
Events will include:
- Ten days of free readings by local celebrity-heroes (police officers, chefs, ballerinas, actors, elected officials, TV personalities, and more) and related activities for young children
- Community readings and a workshop for educators featuring Audrey Penn, Bookmarked! 2012's featured author and winner of the 2012 Lucy Daniels Award
- A Lucy's Book Club Book Fair April 27-29 at Quail Ridge Books, featuring works by Audrey Penn
- A free Family Fun Concert Saturday, May 5, at The Green at North Hills that will include music, readings, and other fun activities for families and kids
These events will take place at venues all over Wake County, including Lucy Daniels Center, the N.C. Museum
of History, Quail Ridge Books and Marbles Kids Museum. In addition to the book fair at Quail Ridge, attendees will be able to purchase pre-signed copies of Ms. Penn's books at the N.C. Museum of History store and during the Family Fun Concert. Proceeds from all book sales benefit Lucy's Book Club and the Center's Family Support Fund in 2012-13.
